It is 7:43 AM and I am drinking coffee and dealing with a nosebleed. Last night was Friday the 13th. It was a very good day for me thou, Id been sort of slobbish and miserable this whole past week - its a physical and/or emotional and maybe even astronomical event, realistically Ive just been kind of a fat slob this week until yesterday.
I played a show which was unintentionally the best last night. I played with my friend Ian Putnam who makes a webcomic called normal, which is very good and I like him.
Ive been working on this Kanye-esque, Jay-Z character that might actually just be an excuse to overinflate my ego and also negate dealing with stage banter, because while im really good at writing songs, Im very bad at actual stage banter.
Anyways, me and Ian have been trying to start on doing performance art type things in the vein of MDE, so for our first performance thing, I had Ian do my stage banter for me in between songs (referring to him as my publicist) while I wore sunglasses and a big gold chain and during the songs we set up a laptop and a chair for him to “check my emails.”
I also brought a trauma table from my moms which I did not need to bring because bars are filled with tables and I did not realize this.
The actual playing went fine, and I think Ian enjoy being on stage.
I played overly frantically and my wireless system died because I didnt charge it, but I caught it just in time before I played to switch out to a quarter inch, I am charging my wireless system rn for my bass guitar.
Only two people actually showed up besides the bands and comedians. One of them being Sam, who is a good friend of mine. He teaches physics for a living, allows his students access to music equipment during lunch, runs in a poncho when it rains, and actually seems to enjoy music.
He listens to my music and I really appreciate that, he noticed the new songs on the setlist as well as mentioned he really likes my “Dostoyevsky in Beckley” line from Bea Aboo. The other person was Dave, who is my best friend and I was so glad that he came out to the show. It was a bar show, which Im sure Dave has played enough of. But he enjoyed my set, and he enjoyed the bluegrass band that played after me - Jesse and The Hogg Brothers. They dressed up as the cast from Gilligans Island, Ive attached an image here:
Me and Dave finished a song in an hour, it was very good. Dave is much more confident in how he plays and the song turned out really well. The song ended up a lot sadder than I expected. I have attached the images of me and him recording here:
I left the show during the Gilligans Island bands encore, I know its bad form to leave shows like that but I was tired and it was gonna rain (but I didnt know this at the time when I left), and I went back to Daves to pick up some Chinese food from Young Chows he had brought because I told him I never ate there. My mom is currently eating said Chinese food in exchange for her doing my fafsa.
Me and Dave ended the night chit chatting and watching Poor Dead Ronley, which is one of Dave and Shanes first movies. It starts Korey Tedder who is a national treasure.
